| So what did you do Sunday night? Well, the wife and I thought it would be a nice evening to take the snow machines for a ride considering we traveled all the way to Grafton Nort Dacotah for a cross the country race. How did the race go? Well I raced a whole 1.2 mile as fast as I could make the little Phazer go and then I hit a g*sh d*rn stump lurking under the snow that took out the front end of the little girl. How much will that cost to fix? Oh I s'pose only about $500 bills when all is said and done. Wow ! That's crazy, so I bet the ride on Sunday evening was relaxing? Yea it was nice, I fired up the 1996, 583 Summit and opted for the medium weight gloves since it was only -9 degrees with a -27 below wind chill. The wife gave me a dirty look when I told her she should try my new FXR gloves from Ultimate Transportation, she said it was not cold enough to need those. So anywhooo we headed South along the mighty South Branch of the Buffalo and played in the fresh POW for about 4 miles until I decided we needed to take to the river. It was beautiful as we frolicked in the fresh dry snow. I am quite familiar with this little creek and well aware of the BEAVER DAMS so I slowed before approaching this one however the nimble Summit sank like a D-9 Dozer with a full tank of fuel. No worries the wife and I mounted her mint (I never ride it) 1997 XC-440 and headed to the shop for a cable and ratchet come-along. As we exited the river we left a 3 foot deep trench and made it about 200 yards before spinning out, (we're having fun now!) this is where POW experience shines, tramp a trail put the wife on the seat and instruct her to go WFO as I tug the ski loop, "wait! Once you're out make two loops and stop in your track, if you decide to come back for me." As she powers out WFO and makes a third loop in the POW just for fun you gleam with pride and think "go girl!". Now we are two up again and have picked up the 20 foot cable and crappy old ratchet come-along that hates to be used when it is -9 below. Have you ever traveled what seems like 10 miles across a plowed field holding a 25 pound chain in one hand a 10 pound come-along in the other? You hold them out to the side of the sled because you know if you get the wife's jacket dirty the pain inflicted by her will be much worse than the muscle cramps you are feeling! So, we arrive with a little sunlight left and as I step on the ice my right leg feels the need to penetrate the ice and soak the appendage up to the knee, no big deal this will be a piece of cake, hook the cable and come-along up and ratchet away, ten minutes later we are off the river and the Summit (with frozen rear skid) rides like a Summit with a frozen rear skid. So what did you do last night? |
